Bob Egelhoff is one of the greatest Winemakers in Napa. The list of Wineries he has made wine for is spectacular. He has made wines for Beckstoffer Vineyards, Robert Craig and Merryvale. Today he consults for Pahlmeyer, David Arthur and Axios, some of the finest names in Napa. Today however his main focus and passion today are his own wines and today I have his great value Napa red and one of the great values I have tasted this year. The wine is the 2019 Egelhoff Cabernet Code Black and you will hard pressed to find Napa at this price that is this good. The wine is superb, richly textured and bold with a classic Napa core. This is a small production wine, only 550 cases that gets the same tender love and care that Egelhoff gives his $100 plus Napa Cabs. This Cabernet based blend is sourced from some of Napa’s finest single vineyards including Mt George (1st planted in the 19th century and today part of Silverado Vineyards), Olive Hill (Owned By BR Cohn) and Blakely Vineyard (used by Bob in his $100 Plus Cabs). The wine is a steal for what’s in the bottle. This is a great buy, a legendary winemaker, an all-time great value the wine has all the bells and whistles, even better wait till you pop the cork.
