2017 Ruffino Chianti Riserva Ducale Oro
2017 Ruffino Chianti Reserva Ducale Oro Ruby red with garnet hues. The wine expresses a distinctive Tuscan bouquet of violet, cherry, and plum, with aromas of chocolate and spice. Intense aromas of violet, blackberry, cherry, and ripe plum with intriguing notes of cinnamon and clove. Classic elegance and structure in which the fruit, tannins, and spices form a tightly woven balance, with a lingering finish of chocolate and coffee.
Riserva Ducale Oro pairs exquisitely with traditional Italian dishes such as pasta Bolognese, wild boar ragu, and eggplant Parmesan. It’s also wonderful with classic American dishes such as grilled ribeye and roasted vegetables.
Ruffino
For more than 130 years, Ruffino has been celebrating the enjoyment of the Italian lifestyle, producing the highest-quality wines for diverse palates. I.L. Ruffino was founded in 1877 by two cousins, Ilario, age 28 and Leopoldo, age 42, to sell and export Tuscan wines and olive oils. Ruffino’s status was firmly established both nationally and internationally when its Chianti won a Gold Medal at the 1881 Milan Wine Exhibition, a prize at the 1884 Nice Exhibition, and another Gold Medal at the 1885 Antwerp Exhibition.
Ruffino developed a base of distinguished customers, including Rossini, Verdi, and the Duke of Aosta, who, in 1890, appointed Ruffino to supply his and the royal family’s households with wine. In appreciation, Ruffino named an aged Chianti, Riserva Ducale (Reserved for the Duke), after him in 1927. In 1913, with failing health no heirs, the cousins opted to sell the business to the Folonari brothers.
Ruffino became the first major winery to purchase properties within Italy’s three most important production areas: Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. As of 1960, Ruffino was exporting to over 100 countries worldwide.
Ruffino’s Estate philosophy is aimed at achieving top-quality wines through the careful selection of vineyards, grape varieties, soil, and modern cellar techniques, combined with vast experience.
Ruffino considers elegance, balance, and drinkability the most important characteristics in our wines. We try to express the best qualities from every grape we cultivate in our vineyards. Today, Constellation Brands continues the Ruffino and Folonaris’ vision of maintaining Ruffino as the standard for Italian wine brands.
