The Finest New Chardonnay I Have Tasted This Year
Tiny Production

Stylistically, a California cousin to Meursault this wine is fresh, crisp with layers of white fruit and apricot. Focused and precise, this generous wine imparts flavors of citrus, pear and a whisper of clove. Expect a long perfect finish and an overwhelming desire for more. Planted to Wente Selection Chardonnay originating from Meursault and brought to California in the 1890’s this fruit is sourced from the Flocchini Vineyards. Cool marine breezes sweep the hillsides of morning fog though it’s a cool and windy site with extremely shallow rocky clay soil. Production under 100 cases.

This Chardonnay is magnificent. I get so excited when I taste a new wine that blows me away and that I can share with all of you The wine is 2020 Vivier Chardonnay. The Vivier is made by a tiny producer who has been taught how to make wine by one of the true Pinot Noir and Chardonnay winemaker of our time.

Stephane Vivier is a big time proven commodity when it comes to making world class Chardonnay. One of the greatest California Chardonnay  made today is the HDV Chardonnay (Hyde de Villaine). HDV was born when two royalty wine families decided to marry. HDV is owned by the Hyde family of Napa and the Aubert de Villaine family of Domaine de la Romanee Conti. The Hyde family own one of California greatest single vineyards for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. California’s greatest Winemakers: Kistler, Marcassin, Hobbs, Aubert, Ramey make single vineyard designates wines from this great vineyard. Romanee Conti are the most collected and most expensive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the world. Stephane was chosen to make the wine at HDV under the tutelage of the legend Aubert de Villaine who makes Romonee Conti.

I must tell you it does not get better than that! Stephane has now decided to go out on his own making world class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the greatest vineyards in California. His wines floored me and we have just received his spectacular 2020 Stephane Vivier Chardonnay Sonoma Cost that is absolutely kicking. It combines what all the finest Chardonnay from California combine. The spectacular, expressive fruit, richness that California adds matched to the complexity, layering and length that the greatest Chardonnay possess. The wine reminds of a great Meursault Charmes, richness and opulence with finesse and elegance. This is truly great Chardonnay that’s reminds me of Kistler or Aubert but and the best part is for now it’s under $40 a bottle which is for free for top echelon Chardonnay. I strongly recommend. Unfortunately under 100 cases of the wine were made!!
