2021 Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc
2021 Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc A beautiful Sauvignon Blanc, marked aromatically by citrus notes – lime, lemon, grapefruit, and a hint of mandarin. Full of white peach and cassis bud, framed with vanilla, ripe pear, green apple, and hints of dried herbs and toasted wheat berry. Rich and textural, with a wonderful minerality and energy that carries into a long, mouthwatering finish.
Previous vintage 94 Points Robert Parker: “The Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc bursts from the glass with notes of lemon tart, key lime pie and orange blossoms with nuances of acacia honey, baking bread, fresh grapefruit and crushed stones. Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastically intense citrus and mineral notes, framed by great freshness and a silken texture, finishing very long and perfumed.”
Layers of tropical fruits and floral aromas invite you into this intriguing and dynamic Sauvignon Blanc. Notes of fresh lime and grapefruit add tension and bring freshness on the approach, while yellow and white peach intermingle with subtle oak and a creamy meringue mid-palate. Hints of minerality and saline contribute to its long finish and complete this complex wine. Medium bodied, layered, and refreshing! Winemaker
Spottswoode
Hailed as the “aristocracy of American Sauvignon Blanc,” Spottswoode has been making this pinnacle expression since 1984.Spotteswoode is one of the finest producers in Napa Valley, referred to as one of the original “Napa blue bloods”, with the winery dating back to the 1800’s, pre-prohibition. It is one of the most collected properties in Napa, always scoring massive press from all of the major pundits. Their Cab is as Cult as they come. The track record of Spottswoode in Napa has very few equals. Under the guidance of the Novak family and with the help of the who’s who of great Napa wine makers starting with Tony Soter, including others greats Mia Klein and Rosemary Cakebread, Andy Erickson interned and today Aaron Weinkauf. They have been able to stamp their style and imprint on this tremendous vineyard. Truly a First Growth of Napa. I have been lucky enough to sit down with daughter Lindy Novak and taste there great wines on different occasions and it is one of the true greats. Spottswoode is like Chateau Latour from Bordeaux in its consistency. I have never had a bad bottle of Latour in any vintage and I can say the same for Spottswoode.
Their 2021 Spottswoode Sauvignon is considered to be the finest expression of Sauvignon Blanc from California and the biggest reason is they use their finest vineyards and they put the same effort and TLC (tender loving care) in to the wine as they do far more expensive Cabs. Most wineries make Sauvignon Blanc as a add on or a throw away but not at Spottswoode. Counted among the “Super Sauvignons” that achieve the highest expression of this noble grape, Spottswoode’s iconic example uses a careful balance of French oak, stainless steel, clay amphora, and ceramic and concrete cuves. The art of winemaking is museum-worthy at this level, but thankfully still table-ready at the price! Made from estate grapes and a handful of iconic family-owned vineyards, in 2021. Sauvignon Blanc is perfect for Summer and Spottswoode is the perfect Sauvignon Blanc!
