2019 Venge Scout’s Honor
2019 Venge Scout’s Honor , Napa Valley The highly successful Venge Scout’s Honor is, in this incarnation, a red blend, tipping the scales at 15.3% natural alcohol. A major sleeper of the vintage, this is a killer wine that sells for a song for how good it is. Inky purple with blackberry and cassis fruit, licorice, incense and graphite, the wine is full-bodied, unctuously textured and a thrilling mouthful of wine that satisfies both the hedonistic and intellectual senses. This is one of the best Scout’s Honor I have ever tasted. Kudos to Nils Venge’s son Kirk, the current winemaker.
This is a great buy and pound for pound one of the greatest values coming out of Napa. The 2019 vintage has just arrived and its and one of the finest vintages of this wine I have tasted. Customers Love This Wine!!
Nils and Kirk Venge are Napa Royalty and Nils Venge is a Napa Icon. Nils was the first winemaker ever to make a 100pt Parker Napa Cab. The wine was the 1985 Groth Cabernet Reserve and the name Venge is synonymous with great Napa red wine. Nils has since partnered up with son Kirk to create Venge Family Vineyards and with half a century of experience in Napa make some of the greatest red wines to be had. I am a huge fan. They make rich round big reds that are gorgeously supple and smooth as silk. Their wine club is sold out at the Winery.
Venge Scouts Honor fans know that The smart buy and the great value from their range is the 2019 Venge Scouts Honor. The wine has received a huge 93+pts by Parker three years in a row. This makes this wine a great buy! The wine is the definition of delicious, is pure decadence and has developed quite a following and will sell out. Parker, “A wine that I love, and a super bargain, is their Scout’s Honor.” Production is under 2000 cases and the wine always sells out. The wine is a blend of different grapes, including vines that are 60-100 years of age, selected from great vineyards like Stagecoach. A must for Napa lovers and a definite case buy! Wine always sells out!
This vintage has a gorgeous, concentrated assemblage of violets, anise, honeysuckle, blue herbs, and a touch of vanillin. The palate is pure richness with loads black fruits and currants, pepper spice, and an enveloping masculinity of char and tannins from the Syrah, Charbono and Petite Sirah. A seamless balance and mouth coating deliciousness lead to a wine that is quite pleasing to the senses. Cellared correctly it will age for 5 to 8 years.
Red blend honors the winerys late & beloved Labrador Retriever, Scout. We start with a base of old-vineand build upon that with dry-farmed Petite Sirah, old-vine Charbono, and finish with mountain vineyard Syrah. The result is an unpretentious, generous mouthful of red wine that we recommend be opened and enjoyed immediately upon release.
IN THE VINEYARD: Harvest was normal due to a steady growing season, taking place between September 28th and October 21st, with an average Brix of 27.8 degrees. Grapes were farmed and harvested from four single vineyards in Napa Valley. The Zinfandel was picked from two, old-vine (60 to 100+ years old), dry-farmed vineyard sources: Venge’s newly acquired “Signal Fire Vineyard” estate, and the Frediani Vineyard—both located in the heart of Calistoga. The Charbono is from old, dry-farmed vines (60 to 100+ years old) also planted in the Frediani Vineyard. Robbie Mondavi’s Oso Vineyard located on Howell Mountain supplies the Petite Sirah— And, Napa’s finest Syrah from Stagecoach Vineyard, high in the mountains of the Atlas Peak AVA, completes the blend.
