2019 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon
2019 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon The 2019 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich and layered wine with great balance. Blackberry, black cherry, cassis and plum fruit coat the entire palate in a horizontal, broad fashion. Complex notes of violets, sandalwood, soy, black truffle, walnut, forest floor and minerals are some of the descriptors that may be found in this complex and decadent wine. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from our Champoux (90%) and Mach One (10%) vineyards, is one of the finest Cabernets our estate has ever produced.
98 Vinous – Sourced mainly from the Champoux vineyard (90%) with a smaller part from the Mach One vineyard, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley utilizes clones 4, 8, 191, 337 and 685 with mostly clone 8 selections in the blend. Incredibly aromatic right now, it shows gorgeous black rose petals, crème de violette, sagebrush, black walnut, sandalwood and blueberry compote tones, giving a level of aromatic complexity that is unrivaled in the state. The palate is silky and elegant with a downright soft texture. Deeply concentrated and wonderfully structured, with smooth tannins, this gorgeous wine is already beautifully evolved at the two-year mark and will continue to deliver drinking enjoyment for at least another 15 years. Wine Maker Dan Nickolaus After sustaining significant winter damage to the Champoux Circle Block in 2010, Paul Golitzin began looking at other Cabernet Sauvignon sources in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. Paul discovered the Wallula Vineyard was untouched by the freeze and contacted Dan Nickolaus who manages the vineyard for the Den Hoed family. The Golitzin family immediately recognized Dan’s great attention to detail and unyielding dedication in the vineyard. In 2014, Dan was elected by the Champoux Board Members to oversee all operations of their Champoux Vineyards. In 2017, the Golitzins asked Dan to oversee their remaining vineyard holdings. His hard work ethic and team leadership abilities has helped produce two 100-point wines (2014 Galitzine Vineyard & 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley) and the number #2 Wine of the World according to the Wine Spectator (2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley). Dan is a native Washingtonian, Washington State University graduate and currently resides in Richland with his wife Heather and family.
