2019 Pierre Luneau-Papin Muscadet Servre & Maine Terre De Pierre Brilliant pale straw colour with highlights of green around the outskirts and a watery hue. A lifted bouquet of pear, lime and faint honeysuckle is followed by mandarin peel and lees notes. Light, focused and racy in its feel, salty mineral infused acidity underscores pear, ripe apple and lime fruits. Dry flinty finish with crunchy acidity providing laser like precision to the medium length aftertaste.

The white wines that are made in Central Italy are not flashy or famous, but they can certainly be delicious. This area is known for making clean, light, white wines that are refreshing. You will not find many famous grapes grown in this region, but you will find some great values.
Italian white wines can be very frustrating and confusing. They do not make many wines from grapes that most people are familiar with. However, some of the local grapes that are used can make wines that are elegant, refreshing, and fun.
A lot of the really great white wines from Central Italy are going to be simple and light. They do not have a ton of strong fruit flavors, but can often produce subtly beautiful flavors of tart stone fruits, white flowers, and often almonds.
Keep your eyes open for the underrated wines of Verdicchio di Matelica or Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.
Muscadet is a light-bodied, dry white wine made from Melon de Bourgogne grapes that impart lemon, lime, green apple and pear flavors. This highly-acidic wine—also known for mineral and salty characteristics—is meant to be consumed young, and pairs well with seafood (a classic pairing is oysters).
Richer, creamier and more complex versions of Muscadet are also produced using winemaking techniques such as barrel fermentation and sur lie aging, which means the wine is left to age on the lees (expired yeast cells) after fermentation without filtering out the yeast sediment–a winemaking method that imparts a richer, creamier texture.
