2019 Nicolas Girard Menetou Salon
2019 Nicolas Girard Menetou Salon From southwest facing terroir in the commune of Morogues where the Kimmeridgian marl bedrock lies just 50 centimeters below the soil. The temperatures here are usually cool, yet sunny and lend to this wines full body and richness. This is an amazingly vivid white, bursting with pure aromas of citrus, white peach and flowers. On the palate, it has a precise concentration with long-lasting flavors of red grapefruit, apricot, and minerals.
World Class Sauvignon Blanc From The Loire
Decanter: Top 20 Sauvignon Blanc’s From Around France.
I am huge fan of Loire Sauvignon and Sancerre. Unfortunately the finer Sancerre’s have become pricey. A neighboring Appellation to Sancerre is Menetou Salon. It sits on the same Kimmeridgian marl bedrock that has made the wines the Sauvignon Blanc’s of Sancerre so famous and so brilliant but because Menetou Salon is not as well known, you can get a world class wine from Menetou at the same price as you can get an average Sancerre. What would you prefer??.
The wine is made by one of the best Nicolas Idiart who also makes the world class Domaine Idiart “Les Vallons d’Or” Sancerre.
That’s why when we received a sample of today’s wine from our good friend Nicolas Idiart, we were blown away. Nicolas is a “wine guy”, with unmatched passion and enthusiasm for not only wine but for business. I met Nicolas Idiart many years ago. He is one of the most passionate lovers of great wine that I know. His knowledge and his experience are superb. He is a third generation wine maker. Both his father and Grandfather made wine in Bordeaux which is where he is from. He studied winemaking at the prestigious wine school, the University of Bordeaux and graduated at the extremely young age of 19. He then worked for one of the most famous Bordeaux négociants spending many years in the US and has a great understanding of our palates. His passion was always to make great wine. He had a look at Bordeaux and the amount of money it would have costed him to buy the correct vineyards to make great wine was prohibitive and quality to Nicolas was the most important thing. He settled in the Loire, land of some of the greatest wines in the world. As good as Sauvignon Blanc at a great price.
