2019 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Les Baronnes
2019 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Les Baronnes Les Baronnes” is a wine of exotic fruit and citrus aromas; subtle yet powerful. Its persistence and harmony find their origin in the exposition and quality of the terroir.
Delicate nose with aromas of white flesh fruits and citrus, this Sancerre is highlighted by its typicity.
“Lively, with bright lemon curd, gooseberry, thyme and lime pith notes. The bright finish has mouthwatering cut thanks to a light chalky echo. Drink now through 2021. 7,000 cases made.” On 2017.
We have tasted exactly sixty eight Sancerre’s over this year and today’s wine is one of the finest. Perfect for the summer months. Sancerre is measuring stick for great Sauvignon Blanc, the ultimate summer white wine. The 2019 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Les Baronnes is spectacular. Not rated yet but I preferred it over the 2017 which received 92pts by Wine Spectator and ranked #46 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100. The wine is from Chavignol one of the sweet spots in the Sancerre appellation and the famous Terres Blanches – or Kimmeridgian marl – soils. Part of the same soil series found on the white cliffs of Dover, in Chablis and across Champagne, Terres Blanches soils give Sancerre plenty of ripe fruit but also sharp, driving, balancing acidity.
For ten generations, the Bourgeois family has been cultivating vines in the heart of the Sancerre region. We have been huge fans of their world famous wines for decades. The small ripe crop of the 2019 vintage is ideally suited to the great Sancerres of Chavignol. This wines is the perfect summer sipper, fresh, alive and crisp, just smacks of summer. We have a great price for the wine making this a great opportunity to pick up some cases for the summer ahead.
