2019 Domaine Bosquet des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Pere
2019 Domaine Bosquet des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Pere ‘Its deep purple/plum color is followed by a stunning array of black cherry, blackberry, and ripe strawberry fruits as well as candied flowers, orange blossom, and toasted spice. As with the old vine cuvée, the tannins have a firm edge and it’s built with short-term cellaring in mind, yet the purity is brilliant, I love its balance, and this is just a stunning Grenache that’s going to have two decades of pure pleasure giving.’ 96+pts JD
The famous Domaine, Bosquet des Pape has a history dating back to 1860 when August Chauvet who had ten hectares of vines decided to enter his wine in the Paris Wine Show of 1900. When Chauvet returned to the southern Rhône with a gold medal, he hung it in the family dining room — something that would never be lost on his daughter, Juliette. Juliettes went on to marry Gabriel Meffre who went on to be one of the leading dynamic figures of the Southern Rhone. Today winemaker Julien Bréchet (Gabriel Meffre’s grandson) works side by side with Robert Parker’s Winemaker of the Year, consulting enologist Philippe Cambie. Cambie has made more 100pt Parker Chateauneufs than any other winemaker. Cambie unfortunately passed recently.
