2019 Alvaro Palacios Camins del Priorat
2019 Alvaro Palacios Camins del Priorat This wine showcases power and concentration, an extraordinarily warm and dry year, but the wine has great finesse. There are more balsamic aromas from the Bordeaux varieties, which incredibly didn’t dehydrate that year: the leaves took a long time to turn yellow. There are notes of licorice and something balsamic. This is juicy and chewy, powerful, pungent and intense, with muscle but with great balance and very clean.
94 James Suckling: Gorgeous, bright fruit with raspberries, black cherries and lavender with some schist. It’s medium-bodied with very polished and integrated tannins that go on and on. Drink or hold.
The Palacios brothers are making some of the greatest wine coming out of Spain, Raphael and Reimondo are led by elder brother Alvaro Palacios. Alvaro is consistently heralded for creating some of the top wines of the Modern era. One of nine children born to the owners of Rioja’s respected Palacios Remondo, Alvaro studied in Bordeaux and worked under Jean-Pierre Moueix at Chateau Petrus. He was named ‘Man of the Year’ by Decanter Magazine. Constantly striving to make Spain’s greatest wines, Palacios hit worldwide fame with L’Ermita in Priorat. L’ermita is recongnized as one of the greatest red wines in the world, garnering 100pt scores. The Priorat region of scattered hillside and mountainside vineyards makes some of the world’s pinnacle reds.
