Winemaker Notes; Bright ruby red. Complex with a prevalence of small red fruits and floral notes. The body is beautifully balanced with a long finish.
Aromas of currants, flowers and orange blossom follow through to a full body with very fine tannins that are tight and polished. Beautiful length and polish. – James Suckling
93pts Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate; The Tenuta Sette Ponti 2018 Crognolo is mostly Sangiovese blended in with about 10% Merlot. This is a nicely balanced wine that offers the tangy freshness and acidity of the first grape ironed out and softened by that smaller percentage of the second. The wine is redolent of cherry, blackberry and plum. Its primary intensity is bright and cheerful. The finish shows pretty thickness, extraction and nicely integrated tannins
Cabernet – Merlot – Sangiovese is the composition of many of the so-called “Super Tuscan” wines of central Italy. The blend can be made to any number of variations, but the combination typically draws on the power and structure of Cabernet Sauvignon, the sweet, juicy fruit flavors of Merlot and the rustic, sour-cherry tang of Sangiovese. The wines may be produced in a style suited to early consumption, or built into robust cuvees that require many years of bottle maturation to reach their peak.
The estate of Sette Ponti lies in the heart of the Chianti zone, fifteen miles northwest of the city of Arezzo just past the village of San Giustino Valdarno. The Via del Monte, known locally as the Via dei Sette Ponti, leads into a beautiful hidden valley and to the estate. The name Sette Ponti, or “seven bridges,” refers to the seven bridges crossing the Arno River on the road from Arezzo to Florence. Erected in the mid 13th century, it took nearly forty years to build, and is perceptible in the right far background of Leonardo DaVinci’s Mona Lisa.
