2018 Ruffino Pinot Grigio Il Ducale
2018 Ruffino Pinot Grigio Il Ducale, Pinot Gris/Grigio from Tuscany, Italy.
Straw yellow with a hint of gold. Intense and very fruity aromas of white peach, pineapple, and passion fruit. Fresh notes of peach and elegant mineral touches typical of Pinot Grigio add complexity and finesse. In the mouth, the wine is pleasantly fruity with flavors of peach and pear, followed by a long, aromatic finish. The acidity is firm but balanced, working with the ripe fruit taste profile to confer freshness and a mineral touch to the wine.
A perfect accompaniment to fresh seafood, linguine, spinach gnocchi, tomato bruschetta, Parmigiano Reggiano, and Pecorino Romano.
This “white” variety is actually born out of a mutation of Pinot Noir and shows a unique rosy, purplish hue upon full ripeness. The grape boasts two versions of its name and two generally distinct styles: the crisp, Italian Pinot Grigio and the softer French Pinot Gris. Somm Secret—Given the color of its berries and aromatic potential, Pinot Grigio is commonly used to make “orange wines.” An orange wine is a white wine made with fermentation on its skins (similar to red wine making), leading to n orange hued wine with ephemeral aromas and extra complexity.
In 1877, Illario and Leopoldo Ruffino laid the foundations of their dream to make the most known and loved Italian wines in the world from the heart of Tuscany. At their winery in Pontassieve, just outside of Florence, they began producing wines according to a strict quality standard and a rigorous technical research. Soon, Ruffino became an international symbol of the Chianti region, and won numerous awards, including the prestigious gold medal at the Bordeaux Wine Fair in 1895, affirming the quality of its wine.
