2018 Mendel Malbec
2018 Mendel Malbec The aromas of sweet French oak and espresso get more complex with every swirl of the glass, unveiling black plum, ripe raspberry, and violet aromas. The wine is full-bodied, dense, deep and chewy with flavors of black raspberry, plums, roasted herbs, and mint. This beauty could be enjoyed now with a nice ribeye steak or leg of lamb since it shows incredible balance for such a concentrated wine.
Transparent and so clear with crushed berries, dark chocolate, walnuts and hazelnuts. Medium to full body, beautiful fruit on the center palate and a fine, long and persistent finish. 94pts JS
I had a dinner with old friends on Monday night, great steak house, old school like Peter Lugers. Being in the wine business I was given job of selecting the wine and knowing that we were going to go through many a bottle. I went with something reasonable and wow were we impressed, big and rich with glorious opulent fruit. The wine was a massive hit. I tasted the wine and it was glorious. I thought the waiter brought us the wrong bottle but he had not. The next day I went on a hunt for the wine and here we are. The wine is the 2018 Mendel Malbec and wow what a wine. The wine is extremely well made, superb balance, rich, maintaining and elegance and purity with an awesome finish. This is the perfect house red, versatile and will satisfy the finer palates. I strongly recommend for the fall and winter ahead.
Mendel Winery embodies the union of Roberto de la Mota – one of Argentina’s most respected and experienced winemakers – with a nearly century-old Argentine family, whose sole objective is to produce wine of unquestionable, superior quality that express the character of their very old Malbec and Cabernet vineyards in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina.
Mendel is the first name of the owner’s father, a man who came to Argentina with nothing and ended up a successful businessman in different industries. He was also a man that loved the finest things that life had to offer, particularly wine. His daughter, Anabelle, honors her father by seeking perfection in her and Roberto’s wines with his name on the label.
