2017 The Calling Chardonnay Dutton Ranch
2017 The Calling Chardonnay Dutton Ranch Intensely aromatic with notes of lemon curd, honeysuckle and white rose petals. Crisp acidity is balanced with subtle French oak on the palate. Flavors of ripe melon, lemon and baked brioche combine for a long, elegant finish.
Wine Enthusiast 93 Editors Choice This is a remarkably balanced white that is steely in nature, with bright aromas of tangerine, grapefruit and Meyer lemon. These tones follow through on the palate, alongside a fleshy texture and mineral stoniness that refreshes and lingers.
James Suckling 92 “One of the fresher 2017s tasted, this has a ripe core of melon and pears with attractive oak spice and subtly toasty notes on the finish.”

A chance meeting, a new friendship, a shared calling.
Jim Nantz, famed CBS sports commentator, and Peter Deutsch, founder and CEO of Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, met by chance at a restaurant in Greenwich, Connecticut in 2009. Peter had recently read Jim’s book about his father, Always By My Side, and it resonated with him, reminding him of his own relationship with his father. Ironically, Jim was at the restaurant having dinner with a friend who had contacts in the wine industry, as Jim was exploring steps to get involved in the wine business. Peter stopped by the table to introduce himself. The two men had independently dreamed of finding the ideal site to establish their own premium wine brand and their meeting presented the perfect opportunity to pursue their dream together.
As plans to pursue this next adventure progressed, Jim and Peter felt Sonoma calling. As a region known for its elegant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Sonoma was the best choice for making extraordinary wines. Jim and Peter were eager to explore the diverse regions of Sonoma and the different expressions they could produce.
Partnering with esteemed Sonoma winemaker, James MacPhail, and award-winning Cabernet producer, Wayne Donaldson, Jim and Peter have created a portfolio of classic Sonoma wines from some of the most respected vineyards in the region. From vines planted on the Sonoma Coast, cooled by breezes off the Pacific and warmed by the bright sunshine above the fog line, comes the Sonoma Coast Chardonnay with its bright tropical fruit and fresh acidity. The Russian River Valley has warm daytime temperatures and cooling ocean fog, which makes the Dutton Ranch Chardonnay crisp and elegant and the Russian River Valley Pinot Noir minerally and structured. The Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and smooth thanks to the warm climate and the well-drained, gravelly soils of the Alexander Valley.
Seven years later, The Calling wines are now quality standards for the Sonoma region with more than 40 90+ ratings since the first vintage in 2012. Each region and vineyard site were chosen carefully for the vines that were planted and the style of wine produced. These wines are a true testament to the greatness that is possible when you follow your calling in life.
