2016 Inglenook Vineyard 1882 Cabernet Sauvignon
2016 Inglenook Vineyard 1882 Cabernet Sauvignon: Rutherford, California
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: The 2016 vintage of Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon reflects a very pure composition that contains only small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and just a touch of Merlot. From this outstanding year emerges a smooth, generous palate with very fine dusty tannins and exemplary balance. As weighty and voluptuous as its predecessor, the flavors and
fragrance of this vintage lean more heavily toward black fruits and seasoned wood. Cassis, blackberries, plums, and black currants provide juicy, mouthfilling flavors while distinct notes of cigar box, oak, graphite, and earthy spices create aromatic accents that are bound to evolve and become even more intense with bottle age. Yet, impressive density and texture already create ample allure.
Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Rutherford ranks among the very finest Napa Valley AVAs. It is located south of St Helena and immediately north of Oakville, at the heart of the Napa Valley winegrowing area. It is named after Thomas Lewis Rutherford, who married Elizabeth Yount, granddaughter of Napa’s pioneering vigneron George C. Yount.
Inglenook is a historical property in Rutherford, of California‘s Napa Valley. It was established as a vineyard in 1871 and has been owned by filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola since 1975. Today, it makes a premium range of wines from classic Napa varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel.
