Tasted Last Night And Wow!
The New Super Star Of Barolo!
He Has Made Some Of The Best Wines In The Great 2016 Vintage!
Giovanni Rosso absolutely nailed it with his 2016 Barolo’s. His top wine the Poderi dell’Antica Vigna Rionda Barolo from Serralunga received 100pts in 2016 and sells for over $200 a bottle if you can find it. The pundits absolutely were floored by his 2016s.
Galloni: “These are some of the best – maybe the best – Barolos I have tasted from Davide Rosso. The 2016s have a level of transparency and finesse I don’t recall seeing in the past.”
Kerin O’Keefe WE: “Unlike a number of critics these days, I don’t easily bestow 100 points, but I gave two 2016 Barolos 100 points and one was Giovanni Rosso”
There is no question about the greatness of 2016 as a vintage. It is one of the finest ever and one of the hidden gems is todays wine. It is one of the great values I have found from this great vintage, the 2013 Giovanni Rosso Barolo. The wines combines the greatness of the vintage without the high price tag normally associated with such quality. Giovani Rosso is a small family run Winery who’s passion and focus is Barolo. Today Davide, son of Giovanni makes the wine. He studied Oenology in France and gained valuable experiences working numerous harvests in Bordeaux and Burgundy. He has mastered the terroir of the Serralunga, a source for some of the greatest Barolo in the world. He is recognized as one of the great young winemakers in Piedmont and you can see it in this wine. The wine with its fruit concentration will drink well young and will age out with the best. This is a great wine for the money. The wine is sourced from the different single vineyards that Davide uses in Serralunga: Cerretta; Serra and his Del Comune Di Serralunga that have all received 95 and 96pts by Parker and Galloni and sell for $70 to $100 a bottle. Interestingly this wine was not been rated and after tasting it I can guess why because it is just too damn good for the money. I cannot tell you how great this wine is for the money! Lightning in a bottle!
