2016 Bovio Barolo
2016 Bovio Barolo The Gianfranco Bovio 2016 Barolo is a wine of vivid energy and brightness. The fruit shows a crisp and pure quality with wild berry, dried violet, candied orange peel and crushed limestone. It shows a smooth and silky texture that holds firm to the palate. Winemaking is simple, with brief skin macerations. When fermentation is complete, the wine is racked over to botte grande for two years of aging, followed by six months in cement. The fruit comes from both La Morra and Castiglione Falletto.
This Barolo really moved me and when I heard the price I was inspired to share it with all of you. You cannot find Barolo this good, from such a great vintage and from such a low price. The greatness of the Nebbiolo grape can make wines that are profound, complex with the ability to age like very few others. The finest from Barolo are some of the greatest wines in the world. Its is rare that I am able to find a Barolo that these qualities at a low price. I can tell you the 2016 Bovio Barolo is a such a wine. The 2016 vintage for Barolo is on of the finest ever, receiving 97 pts by Parker’s WA and rival recent greats like 2010, 2006 and 2001. Todays wine benefits from the increased fruit concentration and structure that comes with a great vintage and the ability to age in your cellar for many years to come. The wine was sourced from two of the finest communes in Barolo, La Morra and Castiglione Falleto. Some of Barolo’s true greats come these vineyards, Paolo Scavino and Bruno Giacosa come to mind. We were able to secure the very last of the vintage for our customers and unfortunately there is not a lot of wine to be had. This is a wine I strongly recommend.
