2015 Tamarack Cellars Merlot
2015 Tamarack Cellars Merlot
Merlot from Columbia Valley, Washington
Crushed gently and dropped by gravity into 1.5 ton bins, cold soaked 48 hours minimum, then inoculated with a variety of yeasts, hand-punched and pressed directly to barrel where the wine finishes both primary and secondary fermentations. The individual lots of wine that comprise the Merlot are kept separate for at least 12 months before they are blended.
This Merlot shows notes of baked almond and coconut on the nose followed by savory capers and fennel. The palate is bold and complex, offering smokey notes of prosciutto and kalamata tapenade. Blend: 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaker: Danny Gordon
Danny grew up on the outskirts of the small town of Banks, Oregon on an 8 acre farm, about 20 miles west of Portland and just a mile down the road from Tualatin Estate Vineyards. Danny graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Agriculture. Shortly after graduation he moved to Eastern Oregon for work and the drier weather. In 1999 he began work for Ron Coleman, the Owner and Winemaker of Tamarack Cellars. Over the years, Danny took over the winemaking duties but as there could only be one Winemaker, Danny took on the title of “Maker Of The Wine” which he still goes by today.
When you visit the winery, you won’t find us in a fancy chateau. Instead you’ll find yourself immersed in the everyday workings of a Walla Walla winery, racking, blending and bottling wine, in a renovated firehouse located in a World War II Army Air Base.
Founded in 1998 by Ron and Jamie Coleman, Tamarack’s first vintage consisted of 300 cases of Merlot. A year later Danny Gordon began working for Ron and over the years, took over the winemaking duties with the official title of “Maker of the Wine”. Danny continues to excel in consistently crafting award winning, varietally correct wines sourced from some of the best vineyards in Washington.
