Suckling 95: Very deep crimson with ample purple reflections. Extremely intense, persistent bouquet showing elegant nuances of violets, red berries, cherry and toasted vanilla as well as balsamic, leather and mineral notes and hints of chocolate, black pepper and cinnamon. This exquisite range of aromas is confirmed on the full, rich palate laced with velvety tannins and long, lingering finish. Winemaker
This is a great wine at a great price from Tuscany, 2016 is a great vintage for Tuscany, receiving 95pts by Parker’s WA as a vintage and 97pts by the Wine Spectator. After a rapid sellout, we raced to secure more of the 95pt Super Tuscan that every restaurant in America was clamoring for, including chef Michael Chiarello’s Bottega.
Franco Bernabei is one of the greatest winemaker and consulting oenologists in Tuscany. He consults for two of my all-time favorite producers Fontodi and Felsina. Bernabei has won more Tre Bicchieri awards than any other winemaker in Italy. This is possibly the most coveted award of any wine producer in Italy that’s given out by their leading wine publication Gambero Rosso. Today’s wine the 2016 Monte Antico Supremus is specifically put together by Bernabei for renowned Italian wine importer to the US, Neil Empson. Having access to the region’s top crus and ideal microclimates means they can pick and choose according to harvest conditions, achieving consistent excellence. They pick from vineyards that have the perfect soil content that are at the perfect altitude, then managed and made by Bernabei has resulted pure excellence with the 2015 Supremus. Supremus is their top Bottling and is classic Super Tuscan blend of Cabernet, Sangiovese and Merlot form great vineyards in Chianti Classico where they source Sangiovese to the Maremma, the coastal part of Tuscany very well suited to Cabernet and Merlot. Thus, the Supremus project is the ultimate fruit of thirty years research and experience from old vines and old friends. The 2016 vintage is a standout getting 95pts by Suckling and at our price of $22.99, this is a tremendous opportunity.
