2014 Domaine Bertagna Clos Saint-Denis
2014 Domaine Bertagna Clos Saint-Denis, Cote de Nuits, France.
This wine has a wide range of aromas including floral, fruity, spicy, and mineral scents. Often the wine begins as cherry or prune on the nose, which is transformed to floral and mineral flavors on the palate. Goes well with roasted chicken dishes, chicken pot pie, turkey, gravy mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, and mushrooms.
These extend from western Germany (as Spätburgunder) and northern Italy to Chile, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. California, Oregon and New Zealand are arguably the greatest centers for the grape outside its home territory. However great Pinot Noir is made in all of these territories.
The essence of Pinot Noir wine is its aroma of red berries and cherry (fresh red cherries in lighter wines and stewed black cherries in weightier examples). Many of the more complex examples show hints of forest floor. Well built Pinot Noirs, particularly from warmer harvests, suggest leather and violets, sometimes recalling Syrah.
Clos Saint-Denisis a grand cru vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis, in Burgundy’s famous Côte de Nuits. It is located on the mid-slope of the Cote d’Or escarpment, immediately north of Morey-Saint-Denis village, and covers just 6 hectares (15 acres) of land. Clos Saint-Denis wines are made from Pinot Noir, and are more aromatic and delicate than the wines from the neighboring Clos de la Roche Grand Cru vineyard.
