2010 Chateau Prieure Lichine
2010 Chateau Prieure Lichine Beautifully expressed, fragrant Cabernet fruit. Such purity, depth and elegance on the nose that the palate can only follow, and yet there is a charmingly lifted crunchy fruit as well, and then of course the finely grained tannins. A very great wine. Drinking Window 2017 – 2050 95pts Decanter
Aromas of blueberries and blackberries with hints of sliced mushroom. Full and round with chewy tannins. Give this four or five years to soften. Tight and structured. Better in 2017. 94pts Suckling
It is very rare that you can get a famous Classified Growth Bordeaux from one of Bordeaux’s greatest vintages ever that is ready to drink with 12 years in the bottle, with perfect pedigree having just arrived from the cellars of Bordeaux that’s your for under $90 per bottle. I have been doing this for 25 years. I tasted the wine last night and I urge you all to take advantage. We have secured the great Classified Chateau Prieure Lichine from Margaux in the spectacular 2010 vintage at a great price.
Prieuré-Lichine is a cornerstone of the Margaux appellation. The Prieuré vineyard was created in the 15th century by Benedictine monks. In the early 1950s the legendary author and wine merchant Alexis Lichine created a group of investors to purchase a set of vineyards in Margaux. The group cleaned up the sites, and renamed the new Chateau by combining the original Chateau name (Prieure) with the iconic Bordeaux personality, Lichine, and hence we have Chateau Prieure-Lichine today! Ownership passed to Alexis’s son Sasha after the former’s passing in 1989. Sasha continued the Chateau’s expansion and brought in legendary consultants Michel Rolland (the most famous wine consultant in the world) and Stephane Derenoncourt ( many 100pts wines in both Bordeaux and Napa) to aid in both vineyard improvements as well as help in the cuverie. Today Prieuré-Lichine covers 80 hectares spread over the five municipalities of the Margaux appellation. It is this diversity of plots which allows the grand vin to express the essence of a world-renowned terroir – this is above all a Margaux par excellence. Over the past four decades, you would be hard-pressed to find a greater value in high-quality Classified Margaux than Prieure-Lichine. The team does a masterful job of showcasing the beauty of the appellation, year in and year out.
2010 is one of the finest Bordeaux vintages rivalling all time greats like 2005, 1990 , ’61 and 1945. The wine has entered its drinking and continues through 2050. A wine of respect that will endure at a tremendous price that’s ready to go for the fall and winter ahead and beyond. I strongly recommend.
