2010 Chateau Lascombes 2eme Cru
2010 Chateau Lascombes 2eme Cru The wine hits all cylinders in 2010. The average alcohol for the bottled wine is 14%. It has a gorgeously sweet nose of creme de cassis, spring flowers, subtle barbecue smoke and charcoal followed by full body, beautiful intensity, great purity, stature and length. The influence of any oak is minimal, despite the fact that 90% new French oak was used. Needless to say, this is an example of modern-styled winemaking at its finest, and arguments that such wines will not age well, do not represent their terroir , and are soul-less, are totally groundless. Give it five or so years of cellaring and drink it over the following 25-30 years. This is one of the great Margaux wines of the vintage. Probably the greatest Lascombes made to date.
We have secured the great Second Growth Bordeaux Chateau Lascombes from Margaux in the spectacular 2010 vintage at a great price. Robert Parker called the 2010 “probably the greatest Lascombes made to date.” Today, we’re ready to strip away the “probably:” At 1/3 the price of Palmer and 1/10th that of Château Margaux, this is a slam-dunk for your cellar. The 2010 Chateau Lascombes stands tall with the most storied wines of the appellation, getting a massive 96pts by Parker.
Château Lascombes, one of five Second Growths of Margaux, has enjoyed two “Golden Ages.” The first came under Alexis Lichine, the proprietor of Château Prieuré-Lichine, who owned the estate from 1951 to 1971. Then Lascombes fell into underqualified hands, and remained there until it was purchased by an American group in 2000. The new owners’ first order of business was to hire a dream team of Bordelaise vintners—Bruno Lemoine of Château Montrose, Alain Raynaud of La Fleur de Gay, and the world-famous enologist Michel Rolland. They cut yields by two thirds and the wine has got better and better ever since and with 2010 it is back to where it belongs as one of the greats of Margaux. This is a great wine without the price tag that is drinking extremely well now through 2045. Our price is strong, cellared to perfection. Will increase in value in your cellar pop a bottle and experience what truly great Bordeaux is all about.
